The Modern age was first released on the 29th Jan 2001 in the U.K, and only managed to reach
no.78 in the U.K singles chart. The U.S version artwork was sent to the printers of
Marlboro
packets
, so they could get the exact match in colour for the red and white sleeve""

The Modern Age hit #13 on the CMJ top 200 chart. The Modern Age'' title was once called ''The
Mode".
The Modern Age sold just over 3,000 copies in the uk.

[Worldpop]: Tell us about the Modern Age what's your message to the kids?
Julian: It's not really about the modern age; it's more about getting out of town, leaving New
York.
Nick: My comment to the kids would be drink your milk, stay on drugs, don't go to school. "We
recorded that Modern Age EP as a demo for $400 or $500"

Hard To Explain:: (double A-side)
Hard To explain made it to #16 in the U.K charts. The Strokes performance of New York City Cops
was shown on Top of The Pops July 2001. The AUS release of Hard To Explain was released with
completly different artwork. New York City Cops might have been called "New York City Cocks"!!
but, Julian thought "Cops" sounded better.
